In partnership with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and the Georgia Public Library Service, the Morgan County Library is proud to host a touring banner exhibit visiting public libraries statewide in an effort to preserve the memory of the Holocaust and to promote public understanding of the history.
Fashioning a Nation: German Identity and Industry, 1914-1945 is on display at Morgan County Library from September 19th until October 19th, 2023. This exhibit explores the powerful history of German fashion from its international impact to its destruction by the Nazi regime. It honors the legacy of the Jewish Germans who contributed to its rise and commemorates the great cultural and economic loss resulting from its demise.
“The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and Georgia’s public libraries offer a wealth of local and regional history for Georgia residents. Partnering to ensure the Holocaust and World War II are not forgotten is a natural decision so we can share this important history widely across our communities,” said Sally N. Levine, Executive Director, Georgia Commission on the Holocaust
The tour officially launched on March 28 and runs well into 2025 visiting a total of 88 public libraries across Georgia. Library staff will have access to educational materials and reading lists for all ages provided by the Commission allowing them to develop programs and help patrons explore the lives of those affected by the Holocaust as well as the massive toll it took on society as a whole.
“We are thrilled to host this enlightening exhibition," said Stacy Brown, Executive Director of the Azalea Regional Library System. “This exhibit not only showcases the history of German fashion but also serves as a poignant reminder of the Holocaust's impact on cultural and economic legacies. We are proud to be part of this collaboration with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and the Georgia Public Library Service, as it aligns with our commitment to preserving history and fostering understanding throughout the entire community."
The current tour is not the first time Georgia’s public libraries have hosted exhibits from the Commission. The last tour was in 2013 and it ran for several years visiting all parts of Georgia.
