Dulcé Sloan's first memoir is organized into essays from her life. From a childhood moving between cities, starting her own business selling toys at a Miami flea market, to being a Black kid in a predominately white school, she's always used her masterful wit to challenge the status quo. Her purpose in comedy unfolded while navigating clubs and the set of The Daily Show. Have you ever dated an adult who roller skated, or went out with a mechanic just to get free auto service? Yup, she's got that story for you. Her stories are both wildly entertaining and culturally resonant.

My Mexican Mesa, Y Listo! features 100 recipes ranging from breakfast and appetizers to tacos, tamales, and taquitos. The main dishes include mole negro, carnitas, chiles rellenos, and enchiladas. And let's not forget her tasty desserts like churros, paletas, and Mexican bread pudding, and a few cocktails too. Sure to delight her avid fans and Mexican food lovers everywhere, this cookbook is a must-have for home cooks looking for their next delicious meal.

💡Resource Spotlight💡

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Keeping Georgia’s public library shelves stocked with books and other resources is crucial in getting young children ready to read.

We’ve partnered with libraries to encourage parents to read 1,000 books with their children before age 5. This program is designed to be a fun and easy way to help your child develop pre-reading skills vital to kindergarten readiness.

Research shows a striking correlation between pre-reading skills and later academic success reaching into high school and beyond.

Parents and caregivers are a child’s first and best teacher. By sharing stories at home, you can give your child a valuable gift – a sense of confidence and a love for books and reading that can last a lifetime.

☀️ Summer Recap

The Eatonton-Putnam County Library extends its deepest gratitude to the wonderful organizations that made our Summer Reading Program a resounding success! Your generous support helped us inspire a love of reading in children and adults throughout our community.

A special thank you to:

  • Putnam Reads (formerly known as FERST Readers of Putnam County) for generously sponsoring two programs: "Nguzo Babies" and "Josie Bailey," and also provided a volunteer storyteller for two storytimes during the Summer Reading Program.
  • Eatonton Service League for sponsoring the "TaleWise: Science Heroes" program.
  • Kiwanis Club of Eatonton for sponsoring the "Keith Karnok" program
  • Eatonton Pilot Club for sponsoring the Summer Reading Kick-Off on May 31st. Additionally, Thank you  Becky Wall, President of Eatonton Pilot Club and PCES Media Specialist, for volunteering as a storyteller.
